BAYONNE releases “Primitives”! 2SER album of the week this week!

Self-described “minimalist composer” Bayonne (aka Roger Sellers) has just released his long-anticipated debut album ‘Primitives‘. The album features early singles, “Appeals”, “Spectrolite” and “Waves” along with a slew of new tracks.  Roger Sellers has a knack for making hypnotic, enveloping songs from a few repeated musical phrases. He’s a gifted musician who is mostly self-taught, having abandoned formal study because it was draining the life from his work. He’s a self-described disciple of Phil Collins.
Rolling Stone recently named Bayonne one of “10 Artists You Need To Know.” The feature noted how Bayonne‘s use of a “hillcock of mixers, pedals, keyboards and sequencers to build his pop songs” helped him gain attention in Austin and begin piecing together his debut album, ‘Primitives’.

Primitives‘ is a rich, complex work – the kind with no clear rock parallel. In its winding, maze-like structures are hints of both Steve Reich and Owen Pallett, each instrument working a single melodic pattern over and over and over, as Sellers threads his soft, reedy voice between them. Sellers creates music that’s nuanced, layered, complicated and soothing – easy to get lost in, impossible to ignore.

Bayonne has already received praise for his recorded and live performances from the likes of Rolling Stone, NPR, Entertainment Weekly, KCRW and more. Now, after a killer set of SXSW performances, the electronic musician is gearing up to tour in support of his album.
