Big Thief announce Australian tour dates for 2017!

“Some of the most compelling songs I’ve heard in a long time… songs that take you on a real journey, with intelligent stories and twist-and-turn melodies. And fun as hell live.” – Sharon Van Etten

Brooklyn‘s Big Thief have just announced a slew of new dates in the US, EU and UK and now Australia for 2017.

The four-piece will kick off their first ever tour down under with a performance at the Perth International Arts Festival, followed by a very special appearance alongside American indie dream-rock quartet Warpaint at Zoo Twights in Melbourne.

Earlier this year, Big Thief released Masterpiece (Spunk Records/Saddle Creek), one of the most stunning debut albums of the year. The praise has been exuberant, with NPR Music‘s readers (and hosts) calling it their #1 debut of the year so far, as well as including it in their list of 30 Favourite Albums.

PRAISE FOR MASTERPIECE
“A missing link between multiple Nineties moments. The band’s debut, Masterpiece, is a decades-overdue convergence of tender alt-country, pugnacious indie rock and vulnerable emo, led by a voice that switches between solace and a scream.” – Rolling Stone

“The Brooklyn foursome’s debut is the work of some feverishly creative minds.” – MOJO

“Masterpiece is one of the strongest debut albums of 2016. It’s an album on being human, finding compassion, being a lover or just a friend.” – NPR Music

“Lenker has a striking voice and a way with turns of phrase – she is a clear star. On Masterpiece, the songs sound cherry-picked over a lifetime of writing, the stories carefully compiled.” – Pitchfork

“The folk-inflected indie-rock quartet’s opening statement is a triumph of the small – the little moments, the fleeting sensations, the stuff that eventually adds up to life at the end of it all. It’s expert in its songcraft but imminently approachable in its personality. The title ends up being something close to accurate.” – SPIN

“Big Thief ultimately nail the different shades of reckoning and self-introspection on ‘Masterpiece’. Many listeners will no doubt identify with and see pieces of their own struggles inside this album.” – Paste Magazine

“Brooklyn’s Big Thief are everything you could possibly want from modern folk-tinged rock and more.” – Noisey

“What makes Masterpiece such an engrossing listen is how they regulate the songs to their bare essentials even when they’re at their most dynamic.” PopMatters

“Masterpiece is more about gut-wrenching truth – a heady trip through stark emotional terrain. Adrianne Lenker and guitarist Buck Meek deliver that feeling with serious purpose.” – DIY Magazine

“Masterpiece is certainly one of 2016’s most impressive debuts.” – Sydney Morning Herald ★★★★

“The folk-inflected indie rock of Big Thief’s ‘Masterpiece’ is immediately likable. Adrianne Lenker’s vocals are the perfect mix of gritty and sweet, while the band are just muscular enough to make impact but still show sufficient restraint to allow that vocal to shine.” Double J (Best New Music)
