Emma Russack + Lachlan Denton release new LP ‘Something Is Going…

What began as a friend helping another friend move house, has, over only a few short years, turned into an ongoing musical collaboration. Emma Russack + Lachlan Denton share news of their fourth album titled “Something Is Going to Change Tomorrow, Today. What Will You Do? What Will You Say?” which is set for release on the 8th of October via Spunk Records. The first single ‘POB’ is a stunning reflection of what is forthcoming in the album.
Lachlan reflects on the track –  “I think I was trying to do a Rolling Stones circa ‘Some Girls’ thing when we recorded this. The evangelical priest at the lectern, talking about the end of days. A lot of songs I’ve been writing lately feel like gospel pop. I don’t know what it is, I guess there is something cathartic in that whole, end of days, everything is going to the dogs, so let’s just sing and clap. In saying all of that, the core of the song is about finding comfort in loved ones and letting your guard down. It was still just written on an acoustic guitar with the same four chords I know. I think Dylan’s piano playing really makes this song.”
The first album “When It Ends”, was recorded in one day in an Abbotsford share house, where Lachlan was taking refuge after the break down of a long term relationship. One of the residents, Quivers front man Sam Nicholson, was kind enough to let the pair use his room (and piano), to record for the day. What came out of this was 10 songs of lo-fi folk pop. The release was low fuss, but the reaction of friends and family, and the joy of the experience, had the pair keen to do more.
Six months on, the band were back together, this tome with friends Snowy and Dylan in tow to fill out the songs on bass and drums respectively. The release was again a low fuss affair titled “Keep On Trying”. Spunk records at this point came on board to re-release the two albums as a single compilation under the title “The First Two Albums”.
With Spunk records on board, and Spanish label Bobo Integral eager to be involved in the next release, the pair set about recording their third album, “Take The Reigns”. Although it was starting to feel like something a little bigger than first intended, Emma and Lachlan continued to approach recording with the same sense of openness and easy going attitude as they had with the first two records.
Two years on, Emma Russack and Lachlan Denton return with their fourth album “Something Is Going to Change Tomorrow, Today. What Will You Do? What Will You Say?”. Recorded again with Snowy and Dylan filling out the rhythm section, the band this time went into the studio with Good Morning’s Stefan Blaire and Liam Parsons at the helm of the recording. Although all of the songs were again penned by Emma and Lachlan, the recording saw all members of the band as well as Stefan and Liam get involved in producing.
“Something Is Going to Change Tomorrow, Today. What Will You Do? What Will You Say?” is an album of friendship, love and acceptance. It is an album that explores the relationships of all kinds.
