Floodlights share new singles “Happiness” and “Matter of Time”
Melbourne four-piece Floodlights today share their new single “Happiness,” via Spunk Records. “If I don’t do it right now / Walk straight down the middle,” sings Louis Parsons in a captivating and distinctly Australian drawl, “I’m depriving myself / Of dreams that I had when I was little,” before the band comes to the fore with sweeping drums and sentimental guitars that underline the song’s contemplative, bittersweet message.
Speaking about the song, Parsons says: “Happiness circles around the notion of having conviction in what you want to do. Opportunities are constantly passed up in the hope of something better, just around the corner. Plans are always delayed and changed while waiting for a perfect time that might never come. Until the plunge is taken, a smile may never reach its full extension.”
Floodlights —made up of members Louis Parsons, Ashlee Kehoe, Joe Draffen and Archie Shannon— present a distinctly Australian perspective, with a shambolic, catchy sound that melds 80s alternative rock with 90s New Zealand jangle-pop.
“Happiness” follows Floodlights’ recent single “Matter Of Time,” both of which will feature on their forthcoming debut album, the details of which will be announced soon.
