Jesse Madigan album “Nothing Better Than A Journey To You” out now
In recent years, Jesse Madigan has been performing and writing in several projects, simultaneously creating and refining his own unique sound. The release of his debut album ‘Nothing Better Than A Journey To You’ marks a new era for Jesse, as he branches out on his own as a solo artist. The album explores seasons and transitions, inspired by the beautiful landscapes of the NSW coast, and in particular Newcastle, where Jesse is based – a city whose natural beauty and upcoming music scene inspires a raw and honest sound.
The forthcoming album consists of 10 tracks, and was recorded through 2018-19 in Jesse’s Newcastle home studio, as well as in Victoria with Greg Walker in November 2019.
The album was originally self released by Jesse in 2019 and after finding its way to Spunk Records, it was an instant match. After some discussion with the label, Jesse decided he wanted to re-record some of the tunes and get the majority of the record mixed and mastered for the first time. While the original recordings are incredibly innocent and beautiful, Jesse wanted to make sure his debut lived up to it’s potential and enlisted J Walker (Paul Kelly, Tiny Ruins) to record a series of songs with him and his band and then mix and master the record like he always planned.
As well as being the first single, Under A Summer Night’s Sky is also the first song on the album, setting the tone for the remainder both thematically and sonically. Jesse wrote it following a particular night a few years back that is very special to him now. Jess explains “It was a night that represented a certain time in my life, in-particular the start of that period of time, which is why this song begins the album. It started as a voice memo, which came to me randomly one day whilst playing guitar, and after that it didn’t change much. I really just spent time refining it, adding layers, and polishing lyrics”.
