Jordan Ireland “Spirit Walking” out now
Since disbanding beloved indie-folk collective The Middle East, Jordan Ireland has busied himself recording & touring with numerous creative projects (Blue Divers, Soda Eaves, The Good Boys, to name a few), while also releasing two quietly acclaimed solo records – Stolen Violin’s Temperate Touch, Tropical Tears (2013) & Jordan Ireland with Purple Orchestra (2017).
Where his previous records often featured kaleidoscopic layers & arrangements, Spirit Walking finds Ireland paring his distinctive melodic voice back to a striking oneness of mood.
At once playful & considered, Spirit Walking is suffused with a muted warmth. There is an overarching sense of joy in the quotidian, underpinned by deeper questioning. The track titles echo this balance of presence & contemplation, with everyday activities like Cooking & Swimming giving way to Waves, Wandering & Wondering. The lasting impression is something akin to sitting quietly in a room, studying the shadows on the shelves, while the mind drifts lightly on & out the window.
