The Buoys release new single “Bad Habit”. Bad Habit added to Triple J rotation!
Sydney four-piece The Buoys recently returned with new single, “Bad Habit. Premiered on triple j earlier this week (who added the track to rotation), the song is an irresistibly catchy rock belter “about those tumble-dryer relationships. Both people going around and around in circles, falling into the same toxic patterns and not necessarily being able to stop those behaviours, even if they want to. Heavy duty spin cycle.” – Hilary Geddes, Guitarist.
The single arrives alongside a music video directed by frequent collaborator, Clover Ryan, which sees the band team up for a ferocious game of dodgeball. “The band really wanted a clip that would capture their essence and personality as a collective,” says Ryan. “…The speed and chaos of the game fits so well with the intensity of the track.”
Drummer, Tess Wilkin, says of the filming: “We had to try and gee each other up with lots of heckling and cheering to give it the energy it needed, so we were just screaming ‘BALLS, BALLS, BALLS’ and ‘YOU THROW LIKE A BUOY’… the shot where Hilary gets one to the head was a great one to shoot.”
Nominated for ‘Best Live Act’ in the 2020 FBi SMAC Awards, The Buoys came out swinging in 2020 releasing their sophomore EP, All This Talking Gets Us Nowhere, with lead single “Linda” receiving rotation on triple j. Squeezing in a huge national tour withDZ Deathrays at the start of the year, The Buoys didn’t slow down despite the obvious hurdles 2020 threw at them. They supported Violent Soho, Spacey Jane, The Chats, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, sold out multiple Sydney headline shows, then went on to sell out a five date east coast tour.
Recording their forthcoming body of work with Fletcher Matthews (Sweater Curse, CLEWS, Dear Seattle), The Buoys have embarked on a clear change of pace in their sonic outfit and can’t wait to explore all that comes with this exciting switch up. Paying homage to the sounds you know and love, but leaving just enough room to embark on an exciting new audio journey.
