We welcome the Buoys!!!

Spunk Records is thrilled to announce the signing of one of Australia’s most exciting, punk-fuelled young bands, Sydney’s own The Buoys. The announcement is partnered with  the release of the band’s pummelling new single “WAH” – a cathartic belter tackling capitalist ideology and millennial ennui in just under 2 minutes.
WAH” is about the capitalist rat race and the idea that as millennials, we’re raised to believe we’re inherently special,” says vocalist Zoe Catterall. “We’re often told that if you try your best and work hard, you’ll find ‘success’. What this fails to teach us and what we end up learning firsthand, is that there are societal obstacles to this so-called success. “WAH” speaks to the fact that capitalist ideology is why we’re told we can do anything whilst also being the largest obstacle in reaching whatever success we desire.”
Combine a fizzled-out tinder date, a Gumtree ad and a million mutual friends and you get The Buoys. The sweet and savoury all-female Sydney outfit were recently nominated for Best Live Act in the FBi SMAC Awards following their killer 2019, releasing singles ‘Inside Outside’ and ‘Gold’; embarking a huge national tour with DZ Deathrays, and hitting the festival circuit (incl FairgroundsFestival of the SunLost ParadiseParty in the Paddock).
The Buoys came back swinging in 2020 with supports for Violent Soho and Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, alongside killer sets at Farmer and the Owl and Grampians Festival, and they remain a lock as the main support on the re-routed Spacey Jane tour. After truly settling into their sound and slaying regular touring, The Buoys have paved the way for fiery anthems whilst still making time for those cruisey heart jerking songs all wrapped up into one high energy set.
“‘WAH’ is one of our favourites to play live,” says drummer Tess Wilkin“It’s fast and sweaty. We feel like we create this ball of energy that we throw out over the crowd.”  While the world has hit pause on live music, be sure to turn up your speakers at and rock out to “WAH,” the first taste of more to come from your new favourite Aussie band.
